His Majesty consented to launch Padi Project known as "Cultivation Toward Achieving Self-Suffiency in Rice Production in Brunei Darussalam" and declared a new name for the loacal rice known as "Beras Laila"..

From my point of view, rice plantation is very important production in Brunei Darussalam. It have potential for our economic growth in the future.

I will describe my exprience harvasting Paddy Laila (Beras Laila).....

Before and after harvasting

On last Monday, 17th August 2009.Our BEACA group went to Kampong Wasan at Mukim Pengkalan Batu, Brunei Muara District.This is my first time joining activity that organise by BEACA.The aims of the activity to experience being part of the Brunei heritage in harvesting the new Brunei paddy brand Beras Laila as well as to do some community work with farmers in Brunei.We harvasted Paddy Laila owned by Awang Haji Muhd Ali bin Haji Bakar.

I was delighted to harvest paddy for the first time using tradition method. We used penknives, gloves and basket (with bundle on our body)to cut paddy stems. I thought it was difficult to harvest paddy but when i try, it just simple but need more practice.Although it's simple if we don't have good skills and not systematic it will take time to harvast.From my opinion, farmer need to find workers to help them for huge rice plantation. Rice plantation is good for entrepreneurship. I also exprienced to be patient as a farmer to handle problems for example when Paddy are attack by insects(e.g Rats, Grasshopper) we need to wait near Paddy and find alternative how to overcome problems. This exprienced me to be more creative and inovative in thinking something new.

I am also suprised that Paddy Laila(Beras Laila) was growth faster about three month than other Paddy for example Paddy Pusu (Beras Pusu) with took six month to growth. Paddy Laila can produce more rice than other Paddy per year.

The three most important things that i learnt from the exprienced:-

1. Rice production is very important to Brunei Darussalam.We can reduce import rice from other country.
   
2. Paddy Laila(Beras Laila) produce quality rice and more quantity.
3. As entrpreneurship Paddy Laila (Beras Laila) must productive and hardwork to produce more rice.

In the future, from my exprienced, Bruneian people need to produce more rice not only that we might be produce our local sugar. So, we can export our product to other country.

Last but not least, i want to say thank you to Awang Haji Muhd Ali bin Haji Bakar owned of Paddy Laila that we harvast and gave us 1.5 Kilogram Paddy Laila and also BEACA group keep on our good team work and hard work.
